This rec center is walking distance to my house, and I choose to drive almost 20 minutes to Central Park just to avoid this place. The lady at the front desk in the morning is the worst person I have ever had the displeasure of paying to interact with. Every single time I came in she was rude, or did not acknowledge me at all. She asked me to come take a photo after swim class one morning (when I was sweating, hair partially wet, no makeup etc.), and when I requested to take it the next time I came in she was extremely rude. I didn't understand why it wasn't taken when I first signed up for a membership, and I swear she would do things like this just to make the experience more miserable because I don't know why it needed to be done that day. I realized I was feeling grumpy after leaving each time I came, and it was because I had to see her- it really was that bad and a terrible way to start the day. I was coming for the aqua fitness classes, and they were a complete joke. The lifeguards doing the classes were often on their phones during class and did not seem prepared at all, mostly just going off the same sheet class after class. I like current top 40ish music, but the things they would choose for class seemed inappropriate for the crowd and class. It was also more of a social club with most of the participants standing around and chatting vs following the class. After a few weeks of trying to just make it work, I decided I felt very unwelcome here and chose to look at other recs for classes. Central Park isn't perfect, but it's a whole lot more welcoming, cleaner and larger.
